BUYER RESOURCES
A practical surplus chemical buyer checklist
A product name starts the conversation. A useful inquiry explains what your process needs, what evidence you need to review and how you will make a decision.
- Your intended application and required specification.
- The quantity you need and your purchasing timeline.
- Your document and sample evaluation requirements.
1. Define the application before comparing offers
Identify the requirements your technical team will use to assess the material. Distinguish essential limits from preferences. A familiar product name or grade description does not establish that a particular surplus lot fits your process.
2. Review the material's disclosed condition
Ask about physical condition, packaging and any stated limitations. Analytical results and visible condition answer different questions. Consider whether your receiving and handling process can accommodate the disclosed condition; clarify unanswered points before commitment.
3. Understand what the documents cover
Check whether the available information is a reference specification, representative analysis or evidence tied to the offered material. Identify missing documents rather than assuming they exist. Ask which records can be provided after buyer qualification. A listing is not a substitute for your technical and purchasing review.
4. Give a sample a decision process
When a sample is appropriate and available, agree the acceptance criteria, identify the person responsible for the trial and set a date to review results. Communicate the outcome and the next decision. Sample availability and documentation differ by opportunity.
5. Confirm requirements before an order
Reconfirm availability, quantity, commercial terms and any package restrictions. Provide the intended end use and applicable purchasing or handling qualifications when requested. Resolve outstanding technical and commercial questions before committing.
